The name "Bourbon" refers to the cultivar (variety), which can be either Pelargonium graveolens or Pelargonium asperum.
It is mainly cultivated in Reunion Island and Madagascar.
Widely used in perfumery with its sweet, floral, and sugary notes reminiscent of rose, geranium is notably included in the composition of many perfumes.
The essential oil is extracted from the leaves and not the flowers.
