Originally from North America, witch hazel is a shrub very common in the forests of Quebec and the northeastern United States. It is particularly adapted to cold temperatures. Native Americans used the stems in decoctions to treat swelling and inflammation. It was imported to Europe from the 18th century onwards.

Witch hazel floral water (witch hazel hydrosol) is a very astringent tonic with a tightening effect. It reduces the appearance of skin irritations and helps control excess sebum.
