The specific function of each ingredient is as follows:

• Policosanol is a collective term for the mixture of eight or nine higher aliphatic primary alcohols (long-chain alcohols) isolated from sugarcane wax. The most important member is a molecule called octacosanol. A number of studies have shown that policosanol offers similar cholesterol benefits to statin drugs and, in addition, increases HDL levels.
• Red yeast rice is a traditional food from Southeast Asia and a natural source of lovastatin. Statins are a group of compounds commonly used in prescription anti-cholesterol drugs and include lovastatin, pravastatin, and simvastatin. They target an enzyme called HMG-CoA, which is essential for normal cholesterol production in the liver.
• Guggulipid: A number of studies have indicated that this guggul extract lowers LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It has also been shown to increase HDL cholesterol levels.
• Niacin (inositol hexanicotinate): For over 50 years, niacin has been known to lower total cholesterol levels, specifically reducing LDL cholesterol, Lp(a) lipoprotein, triglyceride, and fibrinogen levels. Simultaneously, it also raises HDL cholesterol levels. In the form of inositol hexanicotinate, the benefits of niacin are achieved without side effects.
• Folic acid: A B vitamin used to control homocysteine levels. Homocysteine, like cholesterol, contributes to atherosclerosis.
