Calcium citrate is an organic form of calcium that is significantly better absorbed in postmenopausal women than inorganic calcium oxide.1 Magnesium citrate is a highly bioavailable form of magnesium2 that helps maintain bone mineral density: in healthy young men, regular magnesium supplementation has been shown to suppress bone turnover rates.3 Vitamin D improves the absorption of calcium and phosphorus and contributes to the maintenance of bone health. Osteoporosis Canada guidelines recommend a daily vitamin D intake of 400 to 1000 IU for adults under 50 at low risk, and 800 to 2000 IU for adults at high risk and seniors.4 Vitamin D intakes of 700 to 800 IU/day are associated with a decreased risk of bone fracture, compared to 400 IU/day.5 REFERENCES
