Serratiopeptidase is a proteolytic enzyme isolated from the bacterial organism Serratia sp. E-15, found in the intestinal wall of the silkworm. Its natural function is to help the silkworm emerge from its cocoon. It has proven useful in humans for the removal of dead tissue.
The enzyme causes proteolysis of all non-essential tissues, including blood clots, cysts, tissue plaques, and cellular debris, in addition to reducing the inflammatory response.
