routine d'automne pour la rentrée

There is something about the transition from summer to fall that inspires a fresh start and a desire to get things done. As we continue to navigate uncertain times, routine can help to provide predictability and structure to each day. So whether you’re a student, a parent, or returning to a normal work schedule, there are many ways to stay energized, focused, and relaxed during this transitional time.

Below are five ways to incorporate foods and supplements that can help you and your family ease into new routines seamlessly:

1. Keep Energy Levels Up

Maintaining your energy and steadying your blood sugar will keep you focused and productive, even when your autumn schedule is jam-packed. Nutrients that will help you maintain your energy levels include:

  • Protein contains the amino acids needed for body tissue formation and repair, metabolism, and energy production.[i] In addition to eating beans, lentils, nuts, whole grains, and lean meats, a high-quality whey or vegan protein supplement is a convenient way to support an active lifestyle.
  • Dietary fibre lowers the glycemic index (GI) of foods, which helps stabilize blood sugar and provide a steady source of energy.[ii] Including plenty of fruits and vegetables at mealtimes and taking a low FODMAP fibre supplement that can be mixed with water are easy ways to increase your fibre intake.
  • B vitamins act as coenzymes to metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and proteins into energy.[iii] A variety of single and combined B vitamin supplements are available to meet various dietary requirements.

2. Support Immune Function

Returning to work or back to school can increase exposure to viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. Certain immune-supporting nutrients can provide a helping hand to your body’s natural defenses.

  • Vitamin C increases the production of white blood cells to protect against infection and elevates antioxidant levels in cells.[iv] Citrus fruit, red bell pepper, and broccoli are whole foods that are fantastic sources of vitamin C.
  • Probiotics support a healthy gut microbiome when taken as a daily supplement or from probiotic-rich foods, such as cultured yogurt and kombucha. Probiotics are an excellent choice for anyone looking to support immune function and prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea.[v],[vi]
  • Mushrooms, such as shiitake and maitake, are rich in micronutrients and beta-glucans that have impressive antioxidant and immune-boosting properties.[vii]
