Plant Proteins 101

Why is there so much attention on protein? Everywhere one looks at health and fitness, there is often an emphasis on the importance of protein to maintain optimal health. Is the importance placed on protein worth it?

Proteins are macronutrients, which are components of the diet needed for energy production and the maintenance of the body's systems and structures. Proteins are found throughout the body, in muscles, skin, hair, and virtually every tissue or part of the body.1 Proteins are made up of amino acids, 9 of which are said to be essential because the body cannot synthesize them, meaning you must consume them from food sources.1 All animal sources of protein, such as chicken, eggs, or salmon, contain all 9 essential amino acids.

Sufficient daily protein intake is essential for maintaining bone health since proteins make up about 50% of bone volume and help increase lean muscle mass when combined with physical exercise to promote a healthy body weight.

There are also several plant-based protein sources, including tofu, legumes, and nuts. However, many plant-based proteins do not contain all essential amino acids. Therefore, when consuming vegan protein sources, you need to know what amino acids are in each source, which is not always obvious! This is why plant-based protein powders can be an easy and effective way to get enough protein, while ensuring you get all 9 essential amino acids!

Genuine Health Fermented Organic Vegan Proteins+ takes into account all the important aspects of vegan proteins, and they are incredibly delicious and creamy! With 20g of plant-based protein and a combination of 7 different vegan protein sources, this protein powder contains all 9 essential amino acids in a single scoop. Our FOVPs include organic fermented yellow pea seed protein, organic fermented brown rice seed protein, and an organic fermented vegan protein blend that includes organic hemp, organic pumpkin, organic flaxseed, organic mung beans, and organic spirulina. This unique blend allows for diversity and variety to ensure you get what you need!

We also made sure to ferment our proteins, which is important to ensure they are easily digested and absorbed! Many vegan proteins can cause bloating and stomach upset because the molecules are large and difficult to break down in the intestines. By fermenting these ingredients, they are broken down into smaller pieces before ingestion, allowing them to be more easily absorbed and digested, thus being gentle on the stomach, i.e., avoiding bloating.

FOVPs are available in three delicious, smooth, and creamy flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and unflavored! The product is fantastic on its own, mixed with water or your milk of choice, but it can also be used in a wide variety of recipes. Discover one of our favorite recipes below!
