These days, collagen is a popular topic. It seems everyone is using collagen to improve their skin's appearance and give their joints a feeling of well-being. But our instincts told us there were so many other benefits to collagen supplementation that we decided to take a closer look at the research.

What is collagen and what can it do?

Collagen is the most abundant protein source in the body. It's like the "glue" that holds us together. But the body's collagen stores begin to decline when we're in our twenties. That's why it's so important to take collagen supplements; collagen can have many benefits throughout the body:

  • Collagen promotes healthy skin by improving its texture, hydration and elasticity.1
  • Collagen supports joints and muscles by helping them recover faster2 from injury and can also help improve physical performance.3
  • Collagen can improve bone mineral density and reduce bone breakdown.4 In addition, some evidence suggests that collagen may even help increase calcium absorption in the gut.
  • Collagen promotes cardiovascular health by reducing arterial stiffness, a marker of cardiovascular disease in older people.5
  • Collagen promotes gut health by acting as a prebiotic and preventing dysbiosis (an imbalance of gut bacteria) in animal studies.6 Other animal studies have also shown that collagen can help heal and strengthen the gut lining.7

Why take a collagen supplement?

You should take a collagen supplement if...

  • You want to improve the quality and growth of your hair and nails.
  • You want to reduce the visible signs of skin aging.
  • You want to support your body during sports or fitness activities.
  • You want to reduce recovery time from sports injuries.
  • You have low bone density or want to improve it.
  • You want to support and protect your cardiovascular function.
  • You need to relieve joint pain.
  • You want to look and feel good about yourself.

How to choose a collagen supplement

Genuine Health is committed to making products that make a difference for you, for us, for our planet, and for everyone who calls it home. What we put in our bottles matters and how we treat the planet matters. Like all Genuine Health products, we wanted to make the best possible collagen supplement.

  1. We wanted pure, sustainably and consciously sourced collagen. Therefore, we found pure collagen sources that were by-products of other industries that would otherwise have gone unused:
pure collagen comes from grass-fed, pasture-raised, USDA-certified cattle. The product is GMO-free, hormone-free and antibiotic-free.
pure marine collagen comes from wild-caught cold-water fish from the North Atlantic. The product is GMO-free.
  1. We wanted pure collagen to be effective. So we formulated pure collagen with a therapeutic dose of easily absorbed collagen in each serving. Each serving of pure collagen provides you with 10 grams of easily absorbed collagen peptides (many collagen studies use between 5 and 10 grams).

  2. Finally, we wanted to make it easy for you to take pure collagen. That's why we made pure collagen from two sources: marine and bovine, each unflavoured (to add to coffee and recipes) and lightly flavoured (to add to water).

Taking pure collagen can provide many benefits to the body. We believe pure collagen is a product we should ALL be using. And by using the Genuine Health method, it means it's high quality, consciously and sustainably sourced, and easy to absorb and ingest. I can't wait for you to try it.
