The benefits of collagen you may not know about!

These days, collagen is a popular topic. It seems everyone is using collagen to improve their skin’s appearance and get their joints feeling great. But our instincts told us there was so much more to collagen supplementation than that so we decided to take a closer look at the research.

What is collagen and what can it do?

Collagen is the most abundant source of protein in the body. It’s kind of the “glue” that holds us together. But the body’s collagen stores start to decrease when we are in our 20s. That’s why it’s so important to supplement with collagen; collagen can have many benefits throughout the body:

  • Collagen supports healthy skin by improving its texture, hydration and elasticity.1

  • Collagen supports joints and muscles by helping you recover faster2 from an injury and it can also help to improve athletic performance.3

  • Collagen may improve bone mineral density and reduce bone degradation.4 What’s more, there is some evidence to suggest that collagen may even help to increase calcium absorption in the gut.

  • Collagen supports cardiovascular health by reducing arterial stiffness, a marker of cardiovascular disease in older individuals.5

  • Collagen supports gut health by acting as a prebiotic and preventing dysbiosis (an imbalance of gut bacteria) in animal studies.6 Other animal studies have also demonstrated that collagen can help to heal and strengthen the gut lining.7

Why take a collagen supplement?

You should take a collagen supplement if…

  • You want to improve the quality and growth of your hair and nails.
  • You want to reduce the visible signs of skin aging.
  • You want to support your body during athletic activities or fitness.
  • You want to reduce recovery time from sport-related injuries.
  • You have low bone mineral density or want to improve it.
  • You want to support and protect your cardiovascular function.
  • You need relief from joint pain.
  • You want to look and feel your best.

How to choose a collagen supplement

Genuine Health is committed to making products that make a difference for you, for us, for our planet, and for everyone who calls it home. What we put in our bottles matters and how we treat the planet matters. Like all Genuine Health products, we wanted to make the best possible collagen supplement.

  1. We wanted clean, sustainably and consciously sourced collagen. Therefore, we sourced clean collagen that were by-products of other industries that would otherwise not have been used:

clean collagen from grass-fed, pasture-raised, USDA certified cattle. It is free of GMOs, hormones, and antibiotics.

clean marine collagen from wild-caught, North Atlantic deep-sea fish. It is free of GMOs.

  1. We wanted clean collagen to be effective. So we formulated clean collagen with a therapeutic dose of easy-to-absorb collagen in every serving. Each serving of clean collagen gives you 10 grams of easy to absorb collagen peptides (many collagen studies use between 5 and 10 grams).

    3. Lastly, we wanted to make it easy for you to take clean collagen. That’s why we made clean collagen in two sources: marine and bovine, both unflavoured (to add to coffee and recipes) and lightly flavoured (to add to water).

Taking clean collagen can provide many benefits to the body. We believe clean collagen is a product that ALL of us should be using. And in the Genuine Health way, that means it’s high quality, consciously and sustainably sourced, and easy to absorb and take. I can’t wait for you to try it.
